Bulgaria has summoned its ambassador to North Macedonia, Angel Angelov, for consultations. The reason is the serious situation with the rights of the Bulgarians in North Macedonia and the escalation of manifestations and hate crimes against them and their associations which has led to the cruel attack on January 19, 2023 against Hristiyan Pendikov, secretary of the "Tsar Boris III" club in the city of Ohrid, as well as to the adoption in November 2022 of the discriminatory Law on the names of associations in North Macedonia.

The purpose of the consultations is to discuss the possibilities of stopping the dangerous trend and to look for prospects for further development of bilateral relations, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry.
