One of the largest Austrian ski equipment manufacturers in the world, based in the ski resort of Chepelare, will build a new plant in the nearby town of Asenovgrad, Bulgaria. Production is expected to start by the end of 2023. According to managing director Ivaylo Petrov, Bulgaria produces about 30% of the world's skis. According to Eurostat data for 2021, the country is the third largest exporter of ski and snowboard equipment in the EU, with Austria and France ahead of it.

On the other hand, a serious problem for the development of enterprises in Bulgaria is the lack of qualified workforce. The company is already looking for the people it needs for its new production centre.
