Young people are not interested in tobacco growing

95% of the tobacco produced in 2022 has already been sold, the Chairman of the National Branch Association of Tobacco Prosucers Tsvetan Filev said for the BNR. 5,309 tons of tobacco of different varieties was produced last year, which is 25% less than 2021.

This was due to the dry and hot summer and the staff shortage. There is no continuity in tobacco farming. Young people do not want to grow tobacco. "They prefer to work and live in the big cities or emigrate abroad. This trend threatens the entire agricultural sector, not just tobacco growing", Tsvetan Filev said.
