The 1980s were the best decade for Bulgaria, say 1/4 of the participants in a survey by Gallup International Balkan commissioned by the Capital newspaper.

For 13.9% of the respondents the best times were in the 1970s. Another 13.6% consider the 1990s - the decade of reforms - the best. The first and second decades of the new century were chosen by 13.3% and 12.2% of respondents.

People aged 46-65 perceived the 1980s as the best time much more than the youngest or oldest participants in the poll. The decades of the new millennium are best appreciated by the youngest under 25.
