Inspections of highways and roads can be turned into a series that could be appropriately called "Theft of Highways" because each check shows the same thing - about 25 - 30% less asphalt than what is required, caretaker Minister of Regional Development Ivan Shishkov has told Nova TV.

According to him, for 7-8 years highways in the country have started literally falling apart. He expressed hope that the European and Bulgarian prosecutor's offices will deal with the topic of critical infrastructure, among which are the "Maritsa" and "Hemus" highways. According to the minister, the issue has two sides - political and criminal. "If we are really looking for the root of the problem, we have to say that it was in the way the country was run," Ivan Shishkov said.
