Police in Veliko Tarnovo detained 13 illegal migrants and three Bulgarians who were transporting them. The migrants, who claim to be from Afghanistan, were trying to reach Serbia, BNR correspondent Zdravka Maslyankova reported.

The arrest was made last night during an inspection of a Mercedes SUV in which police found all the migrants - boys and young men - crammed. The driver was a 26-year-old Bulgarian who is on probation for drug driving.

The migrants explained that they had entered Bulgaria from Turkey by crossing the fence using folding ladders given to them by human traffickers. The refugees were a group of 40 people. The traffickers were to receive three thousand euros for each migrant's passage through Bulgaria.
