The SBS broadcasting service in Australia is planning to terminate the broadcasting of 6 radio programmes, one of them in the Bulgarian language. As a result, Bulgarians living in the country are organizing a petition to keep the programme.

SBS broadcasts in more than 63 languages to cater for the different communities in the country. The Bulgarian-language programme has a history going back 45 years. According to the official census, the number of Bulgarian-speaking persons in Australia is 2,800, Filli Ladgman comments. The ethnic community in the country should number at least 25,000 to have 1 hour of air-time on SBS.
