The Sofia municipal council has definitively voted for removing the Monument to the Soviet Army from the centre of Sofia, and for a call for proposals for the space vacated.
The discussions went on for more than two hours. 41 councilors voted in favour, 14 against and 1 abstained. The municipal council tasked Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandukova to require that the state authorities comply with this decision, in observance of all relevant conciliation procedures, removing the monument to the museum of socialist art, or to a suitable location “outside the city centre”.
During the voting a protest took place in front of Sofia municipality building against the removal of the monument.
