Bulgaria does not need new vaccines against Covid-19

There is no need for new deliveries of vaccines against Covid-19, as Bulgaria's needs are fully met, and the storage possibilities are exhausted. During an informal working lunch of the health ministers of the EU member states, within the regular meeting of the Council of the European Union on Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs, section "Health", in Brussels, Health Minister Dr. Asen Medzhidiev has indicated that there are only two reasonable solutions: termination of the contract with Pfizer Inc./BioNTech Manufacturing GmbH or a drastic reduction of quantities based on real needs, without financial compensation at the expense of the states, the press center of the Ministry of Health reported.

Minister Medzhidiev has emphasized that there is no reason to continue the current general approach and in the future the supply of medicinal products should be organized independently by each member state. According to Medzhidiev, the priority for Bulgaria is to guarantee a regulatory framework working in the interest of patients.

During the debate on the Global Health Strategy of the European Union, Bulgaria insisted that its implementation be guaranteed with pan-European resources, without burdening the financial stability or affecting the right of member states to independently determine their health policies, including to organize the provision of health services and medical care independently.

During the meeting, Bulgaria, Poland, Lithuania and Hungary submitted a joint declaration that their countries cannot accept new supplies from Pfizer/BioNTech, and the current proposed amendment is unacceptable and needs to be renegotiated.
