The European integration of the Western Balkans is of direct importance for the environment in which Bulgaria functions and implements its foreign policy, said in Sandanski Bulgaria's caretaker Foreign Minister Nikolay Milkov. He opened the 16th international seminar "Winter School of Diplomacy" for diplomats from the EU, South-Eastern Europe and the Black Sea.

"Bulgaria protects the rights of our compatriots in these countries and of people who have Bulgarian self-awareness and feel Bulgarian. This does not contradict our goal of rapid integration of the Western Balkans. On the contrary, the observance of human rights and the rules of association, the fight against hate speech and hate crimes, are criteria for the membership of these countries in the EU," Milkov stressed.
