The Bulgarian Orthodox Church marks the feast of the Annunciation

Photo: Archive

The Bulgarian Orthodox Church celebrates the feast of the Annunciation with solemn festive liturgies in churches across Bulgaria. The bright holiday is a commemoration of the joyful biblical event in which the angel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary the good tidings that she would give birth to the long-awaited Savior of the world.

In the Bulgarian church tradition, the Annunciation is celebrated as a day of mothers and women, and the Mother of God is also accepted as the mother of all humanity. That is why she is revered not only by Christian communities.

On this beloved spring holiday, more than 18 thousand people in Bulgaria celebrate their name's day.
