New road sanctions come into force

Photo: BGNES

From today (28 March) a new regulation comes into force, according to which the traffic police will take away more control points for certain offences on the road. For example, 18 points will be taken for exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h (currently 12 points), but for the first time there are also penalties for repeated and systematic violations.
Thus, the penalty jumps from 15 to 20 points if the driver is caught drink-driving a second time. The total number of points on the control points system at 39 (26 for drivers with less than 2 years' experience behind the wheel) and can be recovered after additional training. However, loss of all control points will result in loss of licence for at least 6 months.
