Putin signs bill allowing electronic conscription notices

Russian President Putin on Friday signed a bill allowing authorities to issue electronic notices to reservists. The law provides for the creation of an electronic register with the names, addresses and health status of all persons subject to military registration.

Electronic conscription will be deemed to have been served from the moment it is sent, and citizens will have 20 days to report to the military, during which time they will not be allowed to leave the country. If they fail to do so, they will be deprived of the right to dispose of their immovable property, drive a car, obtain loans, register as self-employed or sole traders.

The Orthodox Easter did not deter Russian forces from striking the Mykolaiv region overnight - the area of Snegurovka, which has been under Ukrainian control since November, came under fire. Russia also carried out an air strike on the northern districts of Sumy and Chernihiv. Meanwhile, casualties from Russian missile strikes on the eastern city of Slovyansk have reached 11 people, including a two-year-old child, as rescue teams try to reach more people trapped under the rubble of an apartment building. Referring to what happened in Slovyansk, Ukrainian air force spokesman Yuriy Ikhnat said the country would soon have weapons to prevent similar attacks. Delivery of the Patriot air defense system promised by the United States is expected shortly after Easter.

Germany will push for European sanctions to be imposed on the Russian nuclear energy sector as well, Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck said. He argued that there was no reason why the nuclear sector should continue to receive preferential treatment. "Nuclear technology is an extremely sensitive area and Russia can no longer be considered a reliable partner," Habeck pointed out.
