Sofia Airport’s Terminal 2 will undergo a complete overhaul and will take over the traffic of Terminal 1, which is almost 70 years old, Sofia Airport has announced. The transformation strategy envisages a brand new luggage management system, as well as a doubling of the capacity of the flight registration desks, a complete overhaul of the hand luggage and border control zone, a new duty free commercial zone covering an area of almost 2,000 sq. m., a revolutionary new catering concept, additional jetwalks and a number of other improvements. The new Terminal 3 will be completely ready by 2030.

“The renovated airport will give the city a new face, and in terms of infrastructure, installations and technologies will meet modern criteria for quality and sustainability,” says architect Tsvetan Petrov, manager of the Bulgarian architecture and engineer company which is doing the reconstruction.

“We are taking an important step towards transforming Terminal 2. The building has the potential to allow us to offer our clients better services but also to be more effective and nature-friendly,” says on his part CEO Sofia Airport Jesus Caballero.
