Most of foreign students in Bulgaria are Greek

Almost a quarter of the foreign students in Bulgaria are from Greece, according to data of the National Statistics Institute for 2022/23.

The number of foreign students in this country has been rising for several years, but in the last academic year remained almost unchanged. In 2021/22 the number of foreign students was 17,616 and in the current year it is 17,593.

62.4% of foreign students study in medical specialties. Greek students are 22% of foreign students in Bulgaria, or 3870. Students from Britain are 14.4% or 2533. German students are 9.8% or 1724. Ukrainians - 9.1% or 1,600 students. North Macedonians - 5.5% or 967 people.
