There are Bulgarians in the Republic of South Africa (RSA) with different political views. Unfortunately, this divides people even here, the President of the Association of Bulgarians in the Republic of South Africa Yordan Radkev said for BTA. Many people arrived in Midrand near Johannesburg to attend the consecration of the first Bulgarian Orthodox church in RSA, although they usually come only to vote in elections, Yordan Radkev said. In his words, voter turnout in the area was high and people were interested in Bulgarian politics.

According to Anton Nikolov, director of the Bulgarian Sunday school "Slancho", Bulgarians in RSA are planning to return to their home country.  At the beginning of the century, there were about 15,000 Bulgarians in the Republic of South Africa. Now their number is about 5,000-6,000. Many people return to Bulgaria, but there are also Bulgarians who go to New Zealand, Australia or the United Kingdom, Anton Nikolov added.
