Prosecutor’s office has terminated investigation into compromising Boyko Borissov “gold bars and euro banknotes” photographs

The pre-trial investigation into the so-called “gold bars” affair was terminated on 10 May, Sofia city prosecutor Iliana Kirilova announced.

The investigation was launched on the basis of photographs allegedly taken in the bedroom of GERB leader Boyko Borissov in Boyana residence at the time when he was prime minister. The photographs show euro banknotes, gold ingots and a handgun. There is no way to establish whether the banknotes and the gold bars are real or just dummies, the prosecutor’s office says.

The Sofia prosecutor’s office of appeal is launching a probe into how the investigation was shut down, Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev commented. This goes to show that the myth of the omnipotent prosecutor general is a political attack and is not true, Ivan Geshev said further and added that every Bulgaria prosecutor who observes the Constitution and the law has his support.
