Hristo Ivanov: If it’s the right kind of judicial reform, it doesn’t matter with whose votes

“There has to be a judicial reform and we have to do our best to make it happen,” Democratic Bulgaria co-chair Hristo Ivanov stated after holding a meeting with the leadership of the parliamentary group of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, in a bid to find support for a constitutional majority in parliament. The meeting was attended by Delyan Peevski, businessman and MP from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, whose appointment as head of the State Agency for National Security in June, 2013 triggered massive street protests against the coalescence of political power with business interests.

“There has to be a judicial reform because when we talk about what brought people out into the streets, they came out because they wanted a judicial reform. Who can we do reforms with, seeing as there is a very clear arithmetic of votes (in parliament – editorial note). We have always said we are going to implement a judicial reform. Not who with, but what kind of reform! If it’s the right kind, then it doesn’t matter in the least with whose votes,” Hristo Ivanov said.
