Level of the Ogosta Dam under control after torrential rains

A partial state of emergency remains in force in the municipality of Hayredin due to the overflow of the Ogosta River, mayor Todor Todorov told BNR. He added that the night was calm, there were no new flooded areas. The elderly were evacuated as a precaution, as was the local nursing home. Animals have been removed from farms near the river.
For now, the situation with the Ogosta dam has been contained and there is no danger to the settlements along the river, said Atanas Muletarov, executive director of Irrigation Systems. The level of the dam is stable and no longer rising, he explained. "We are releasing 72 cubic metres per second, which is the largest volume in terms of capacity that the Ogosta riverbed can accommodate," he said, stressing that settlements such as Hayredin are not threatened.
