Loud explosions woke residents of Karnobat shortly after midnight after a fire broke out in a warehouse for materials for the production of defence products owned by Emilian Gebrev.

This is the second fire at the arms dealer's warehouse in a year - the previous time fire broke out in an ammunition room. According to Emilian Gebrev, it is not clear whether there is a connection between the two incidents. No one was injured in the midnight fire, but the warehouse was completely burnt down.

The Burgas police reported that the case was being investigated by the National Security Agency.

In 2015, Emilian Gebrev was rushed to hospital, and the Belingcat investigative group found similarities between the Novichok poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navalny and the Bulgarian businessman.
According to the arms dealer, the Russian special services' interest in him at the time was related to arms sales to Ukraine in the context of Russia's attempts to acquire the arms plant controlled by his company.
