80,000 persons have attempted to cross the Bulgaria-Turkiye border illegally in the first six months of 2023, Minister of Interior Kalin Stoyanov said for BTA. "This represents an increase of 62% as compared to the same period of 2022. This indicates that the migration pressure is extremely heavy", Minister Stoyanov noted. In his words, the resources of the Border Police are insufficient.

“Whatever result the Interior Ministry achieves, if we do not deal with illegal migration and the war on the roads, everything else fades into the background”, Kalin Stoyanov pointed out.

The Minister has ordered that the speedy pre-trial proceedings against motorists driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs be increased.
