The 120th anniversary of the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising was marked with a torchlight procession on the evening of August 1st in Blagoevgrad. The procession started from the Gotse Delchev monument on Macedonia Square. Children, youth and adults honored the self-sacrifice and courage of the freedom fighters who gave their lives in the uprising. The procession was led by members of the national association "Tradition" dressed as rebels, followed by young girls carrying the Bulgarian flag. Children and adults passed through the central part of Blagoevgrad and stopped in front of the monuments of Peyo Yavorov, Todor Aleksandrov, the busts of Ichko Boychev and Ilyo Voivode.
On August 2, a memorial service for those who died in the uprising will be held in the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary church in the Varosha district.
