Fruit and vegetable price inspections launched

Inspectors from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency and the National Revenue Agency will inspect fruit and vegetable prices, Agriculture Minister Kiril Vatev announced.

Minister Vatev stated further that producers themselves are demanding such inspections, similar to the inspections of dairy products currently taking place. The aim is to ascertain how the added value is distributed from the field to the store shelves. “It will give us reason for some pretty serious changes, including legislative changes,” Minister Vatev commented. In his words, a mere 40% of Bulgarian-grown fruit and vegetables reach the market, and this ratio has to change.
