A Bulgarian-Ukrainian film The end of the river will be screened on 16 August at the 14th international film festival in Odesa. The film is a Bulgarian-Ukrainian co-production.
“Even though times are hard, and despite the constant missile attacks on Odesa, I hope to be able to meet many of our fellow countrymen – Bulgarians, colleagues and friends. Emotionally, the film is close to Bulgarian as well as to Ukrainian audiences,” the film’s director Vasil Barkov, who is a Bessarabian Bulgarian, said for the Bulgarian news agency BTA. The film tells the story of the Bulgarian Fory who travels to the delta of the river Danube. He is arrested for murder and falls in love with a local Lipovan. The beauty and the atmosphere of the “Ukrainian Venice” - town of Vylkove - brings him to the realization he has spent his entire life looking for this place.
The Bulgarian version of the film is 10 minutes longer, and will be premiered in the autumn.
