Bulgaria marks the International Day of Humanitarian Aid

Nearly 15 years ago, by resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, August 19 was declared World Humanitarian Day in memory of the bloody bombing on that date at the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq. Then, 22 UN staff were killed, including the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Sergio Vieira de Mello. 

The day brings together partners from across the humanitarian system to advocate for the survival, well-being and dignity of people affected by crises, as well as the safety and security of aid workers.

On this occasion, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on the social network "X" (until recently "Twitter"): "On World Humanitarian Day, we pay tribute to humanitarian workers around the world who risk their lives to help those in need, alleviating the suffering of a time of conflict, disaster and crisis. We stand in solidarity and support a safer and fairer world.”
