Bulgaria's Schengen membership among the leading topics in FM Mariya Gabriel's bilateral meetings in Bled

At the International Strategic Forum in Bled, Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel emphasized during the panel "EU - a leader in decision-making" that in the debates surrounding the expansion of the bloc, the leading factor should be the balance between expectations and results, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. 

Gabriel gave as an example the membership of Bulgaria and Romania in Schengen and the criteria that both countries have fulfilled for years. At all bilateral meetings of  FM Gabriel, Bulgaria's membership in Schengen was a central topic, with Hungary, France, Slovenia, Portugal, Sweden, Croatia expressing strong support for the country's accession.

In her speech at the forum, Mariya Gabriel also drew attention to decision-making processes at the European level, which "provide an inclusive approach to solving them and benefit citizens, EU member states and relations with strategic partners". In this regard, Gabriel emphasized unity, concrete actions and benefit to citizens. According to Minister Gabriel, citizens and young people play a key role in these processes. 

"Let's make their ideas at the centre of searching and finding answers to the challenges, so that the EU can be a leader in decision-making", Mariya Gabriel concluded.
