The government will not allow a rise in the price of electricity for household users after the full liberalization of the electricity market, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said before the start of today’s Council of Ministers sitting. His comment comes in response to the fears that electricity bills will go up, triggered by the amendments to the Energy Act.
“I would like to reassure all Bulgarian citizens that this is not going to happen. A price-formation model is in place which will keep the price of electricity for household users the same up until mid-2024,” the prime minister said. After that, a change is possible on the basis of a decision by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission. Even then, the price rise would not be by more than a few percent, PM Denkov said.
