Mayor of Tsarevo Georgi Lapchev declared a state of disaster in the municipality, as intense rainfall caused severe flooding, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior-Burgas said.
Multiple distress signals have been received on the emergency phone number 112 from the Tsarevo area for people in trouble and flooded hotel complexes. Two people have died and one has gone missing after the heavy rains in the Tsarevo area, the Ministry of Interior said. Residents and tourists have been urged to move to higher floors to avoid falling victim to the flooding. Tsarevo municipality urges people not to leave their homes, not to move by car, because the road approaches are closed everywhere. Ahtopol, Varvara, Sinemorets and Rezovo are completely cut off due to the collapse of the bridges.
In "Nestinarka" campsite the ground floors of many buildings are flooded. The camping sites "Arapya" and "Oasis", as well as the Strandzha village of Kosti are under water. In "Arapya" campsite the water level reaches 2 meters, and several cars are washed into the sea
The road section between Varvara and Sinemorets is closed due to the overflow of the river Veleka, as well as the road between Ahtopol and Tsarevo, where a bridge has collapsed. Teams are currently assisting the people in distress. Karaagach and Ropotamo rivers are overflowing. Units of the Ministry of Regional Development are working around the clock to cope with the disaster situation.
The Hydrometeorological Observatory in Burgas reported that significant amounts of rainfall have been recorded over the past day. In the village of Kosti 330 litres per square metre of rain fell overnight. By comparison, the average monthly norm for September in the region is about 75 litres per square metre.
A waterspout was observed this morning in the area of Tyulenovo, Shabla municipality, Northeast Bulgaria. The phenomenon was filmed and published by Meteo Balkans.

Some 15 litres per square metre fell over Burgas. The situation there is stable - the rivers there are cleaned and absorb the water flows normally. Burgas Municipality is monitoring the situation and is ready to react in case of danger, reports BNR Burgas.
