The Prime Minister will invite grain growers to talks, again

Hours after he made the categorical statement that he does not negotiate with terrorists, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said he would invite the grain growers "to a subsequent meeting" and said he hoped they would respond.

The reason for the row is the resumption of Ukrainian grain imports, against which farmers announced mass protests on Monday. Representatives of the industry were invited to a talk today at the Council of Ministers, but in an official letter to the prime minister they refused to participate.

"Problems are not solved with threats and strikes, but when you sit down at the table and discuss specific numbers, who got what, what they lost and what are their expectations," said Nikolai Denkov.

Nikolai Denkov recalled that the agricultural sector receives extremely serious subsidies and aid, which were increased by BGN 426 million (nearly EUR 217 million) in 2022-2023 because of the war in Ukraine.
