The population census begins in Albania

The process is also important for the Bulgarian national minority

On September 18, the census of the population will begin in Albania. The census is also important for Bulgaria, because it is the first one since the recognition of the Bulgarian national minority in 2017.

During her visit to Albania last week (between September 14 and 16), Bulgaria's Vice President Iliana Iotova received assurances from the local authorities that the census would be conducted in accordance with the highest European standards  - respecting the rights of all ethnic communities, including the Bulgarian one.

In Albania, Iliana Iotova emphasized the importance of the awareness-raising campaign for Bulgarians living in less accessible areas. She also expressed concern about the signals that emissaries of other ethnic communities explain to the Bulgarian minority in Albania that they are Macedonians.
