In the framework of his participation in the  EU Home Affairs Council in Brussels, Bulgarian Minister of the Interior Kalin Stoyanov met with the Federal Minister of the Interior of Austria Gerhard Karner. The focus of their talks was Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen area.

Stoyanov highlighted Bulgaria's active work in combating illegal migration, underlining that since the beginning of the year the Bulgarian authorities have prevented about 160 thousand attempts to illegally cross the country's territory and that Sofia has strengthened its cooperation with Ankara in this area.
