The Just Transition Plan has been adopted by the government and will be sent to the European Commission tomorrow, as its delay will lead to losses of billions of leva. This was announced at a briefing by Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov and Finance Minister Assen Vassilev after today's meeting of the Council of Ministers.

Denkov stressed that the documents contain a clear message that the coal-fired power plants will operate until 2038. "Gradually, step by step, some of them will be dropped from the energy system, simply because it will not be economically feasible for them to operate any longer," Denkov said and urged the protesters to stop protesting and come to negotiations with the government. He stressed that it is crucial to create mechanisms for workers from coal complexes who have the necessary qualifications to find work in the same region.

36 salaries would be paid to all those who would like to leave the coal plants. Denkov recalled that an enterprise is being set up to convert the coal mine areas into areas that are suitable for economic activity, such as industrial zones. "By creating such territories that are suitable for investors, we expect modern companies that need skilled labour to appear there. We had to check what the interest is and it is extremely high," the prime minister said.

As of this hour, protesters are still blockading key roadways in the country.
