The reports of the services show that there is no direct threat to Bulgaria’s national security at present, President Rumen Radev said at a briefing after a consultative meeting on the risks and threats to national security as a result of the ongoing conflicts and measures to minimize them. It was reported that the government had reacted adequately and in a timely manner to the evacuation of Bulgarian citizens from Israel.

"There is a tendency towards deterioration of the security environment as a result of the military actions in Israel, the ongoing war in Ukraine, the crises in Syria and the South Caucasus, the growing tensions in the Western Balkans, which present our country with new challenges. The escalation of the armed conflict between Hamas and Israel and the involvement of new participants increases the risk of more intense migration flows to our country with the potential infiltration of members of terrorist organizations", President Radev noted.

"Countering the increased migrant pressure requires reliable protection of the Bulgarian border, increased mobility and effective access control systems at the border crossings. There is an urgent need to acquire new technical systems for surveillance, tracking and registering attempts to cross the border illegally... The technological upgrading of the Border Police will contribute to Bulgaria's Schengen membership", the President added.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel, Chief of Defence Admiral Emil Eftimov, State Agency for National Security President Plamen Tonchev, Deputy Chairman of the State Intelligence Agency Vice-President Assen Tutekov, National Protection Service Head Brigadier General Emil Tonev and Military Intelligence Service Director Brigadier General Venelin Venev.
