At around 8 PM tonight, after today’s national protest by miners and energy workers is over, an announcement will be made when the roadblocks will be lifted, Biser Binev from Podkrepa labour confederation at Maritsa-Iztok mines said after a meeting between protesters and the trade unions that took place on Trakia motorway.

Miners and energy workers from the Maritsa-Iztok mining complex have been blocking Trakia motorway in the region of the 208th kilometer and the Pass of the Republic for 14 days since they launched their protest on 29 September. The protesters say their actions aim to “protect Bulgaria’s energy industry” and that their protest is not political.
