The transit fee for Russian natural gas is competitively justified, PM Denkov says

Bulgaria has the right to impose a tax on the import and transit of Russian gas, Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov said in Tirana. The Bulgarian parliament has introduced a fee of 10 euros per megawatt hour, or roughly per 100 cubic meters of Russian natural gas passing through the country. The decision went into effect on October 13.

Despite the sanctions against Russia, “some countries were allowed to import Russian gas because they had no other options. Hungary and Serbia are such countries. Now there are inter-connectors and alternatives and Russian gas should not enjoy any special preferences," Denkov added.

President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić said that he would talk to his Bulgarian counterpart Rumen Radev about the increase of transit fees for Russian natural gas, Serbian website "Politika" writes.
