A representative survey conducted in 8 countries of Central and Eastern Europe by the Bratislava-based GLOBSEC has registered an increase in pro-western sentiments in the region. Bulgaria is an apparent exception in some respects. This was stated during the presentation of the results in Sofia.

71% of Bulgarians want the country to remain a member of the EU. Slovakia is the only country where this percentage is lower. 55% of Bulgarians are afraid of the introduction of the euro, 57.8% want the country to remain a member of NATO, the lower percentage, again alongside Slovakia. Bulgarians are bottom of the list in terms of solidarity with the allies – only 44% say they support rendering military aid to a NATO member countries if it is attacked. Support for helping Ukraine with weapons is also lowest, at 49%. Only 34% of Bulgarians regard Russia as a threat. At 49%, Hungary is the only other country in which this percentage is below 50%.
