Why and how we can become a bear protector in Bulgaria

In July the bear Nikola was saved in a joint action of the Rescue Bear Squad of WWF, forest officials from Bulgarian state institutions and the non-governmental organization Four Paws.

Nikola spent some time in the Bear Park in Belitsa, after which he was transported to the specialized brown bear rehabilitation center "Arkturos" in Greece. The animal is currently there to strengthen and acquire skills for survival in the wild. In short – to learn to be a real bear. In time, when he is ready, he will be able to return to the wild - his home.

See how the operation to save 5-month-old Nikola went!

Successful actions like the one for the bear Nikola are only possible with the participation of people who do not turn their backs on wild animals in trouble, but sincerely wish to help them.

Therefore, these days, WWF Bulgaria again calls on us to support their "Be a bear protector" campaign with donations. 3 years ago, the organization started a program to protect bears and prevent their conflict with people. So far, 2,000 Bulgarians have responded to the appeal for help and supported the creation of the Bear Rescue Squad. It is already in the field and working.
