"Efforts are being made to evacuate the Bulgarian citizens from Gaza as quickly as possible," diplomat Miroslav Zafirov, political adviser to the UN mission in Israel, told BNR.

Earlier, the Foreign Ministry said that 37 Bulgarian citizens and their family members in Gaza had requested evacuation assistance. Zafirov pointed out that the border with Egypt is the only one that is open for leaving the Gaza Strip.
"There is a huge concentration of people there at the moment. All the sides involved in the negotiations (for the withdrawal - ed.) have concerns whether such an operation would guarantee the security of the citizens of European countries, including Bulgaria. Until the security issue is resolved, we cannot take any risk," Zafirov said.
