According to the Plan for the Development of the Armed Forces until 2026, it is necessary to make changes in the structures of the army this year, as new fighter jets are expected to be delivered in 2025.

The report of Minister of Defense Todor Tagarev with the update to the Council of Ministers, which has been published for discussion, reads that there must also be a unified force protection structure, as well as command and control adaptation. The changes are related to the delivery of the first F-16 Block 70 aircraft in 2025.

In addition, due to the NATO Force Integration Unit (NFIU) and the Multinational Ammunition Warehousing Initiative, changes in logistics provision are also foreseen. Some of the changes are confidential, but if they were not implemented, Bulgaria would not be able to fulfill international commitments and difficulties in command and control would continue.
