Leaders urge people to get out and vote

PP-DB's Kiril Petkov tells citizens to "vote like machines", Finance Minister Assen Vassilev not allowed to cast a ballot

"The most important thing is that we all vote, that we ensure peace on election day. And that we have confidence that every Bulgarian's vote will be counted correctly," said President Rumen Radev.

Vice President Iliana Iotova stated that she expected the government to ensure a normal and transparent vote after "all the chaos and confusion that has been stirred up in recent days".

After voting in Sofia, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov urged people to cast their ballots and be assured that their choices would be correctly counted.

Kiril Petkov, co-leader of the ruling coalition "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" (PP-DB), said that it was important for people to vote to "minimise the seriousness of electoral fraud". Petkov also called on "people to vote like machines".

PP-DB's other co-leader, Hristo Ivanov, said that despite "irresponsible attempts to discredit the electoral process, voters should go out and vote".

Finance Minister Assen Vassilev
Finance Minister Assen Vassilev was unable to vote in the local elections in Haskovo because he had been removed from the electoral list for not having been a legal resident for six months.

"The results of the local elections should not shake the government, because Bulgaria will fall back into timelessness," said GERB leader Boyko Borissov.


Kostadin Kostadinov, leader of the Vazrazhdane party, voted in Varna and announced that he expected the resignation of the government and an early parliamentary vote.

BSP leader Kornelia Ninova
"Judging by the turnout, the decision to abolish the machines has not had a serious impact - the turnout is the same, even slightly higher than in previous elections." This is what BSP leader Kornelia Ninova said, urging people to vote.
