Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel has met with the Mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass – the first female mayor in the city’s 242-year long history.
As Mayor Bass handed Mariya Gabriel the honorary certificate of Los Angeles, the Bulgarian deputy prime minister stated that she accepts it “with a sense of gratitude and responsibility for your good relations with the Bulgarian community in Los Angeles and the West Coast as a whole.”
The two discussed bilateral spheres of cooperation, among them the marking of the 120th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the US, as well as the possibility of erecting a monument to the Bulgarian alphabet in Los Angeles. Mariya Gabriel made a symbolic gift to Mayor Bass – a statuette, a small-scale model of the future monument.
