Attempts to illegally cross the Bulgarian-Turkish border have increased by 24%

From the beginning of the year until October 31, more than 170,000 attempts by citizens from third countries to enter the country illegally were prevented, the Bulgarian Border Police reported. 

Over 99% of them were along the Bulgarian-Turkish border. Over 169,600 attempts have been prevented there. 

This is an increase of almost 24% compared to the same period in 2022, when the cases were 137,200. 

Since the beginning of 2023, more than 500 attempts to illegally cross the Greek-Bulgarian border have been prevented.

In the first 10 months of 2023, 1,364 migrants were detained in the border area for illegal entry. 1,304 of them are on the Bulgarian-Turkish border. 2,172 migrants were detained during an attempt to illegally cross the border at the exit.

The Bulgarian-Serbian border remains the busies for exiting Bulgaria, where 88% of foreigners are detained.
