MPs vote amendments to shed light on economy

GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms have presented conditions to Finance Minister Assen Vassilev and “We Continue Change – Democratic Bulgaria” coalition, after which they would support amendments to tax laws in the second reading. The amendments are part of a package of laws related to the approval of the state budget for 2024.

The GERB party does not agree with the proposal for a financial incentive received in exchange for a signal about tax evasion. Until the middle of the year, VAT on bread and flour remains at a zero interest rate.

Restaurateurs wishing to have 9% VAT will have to use software that is directly linked to the tax agency. According to MPs from the ruling majority, the purpose of this measure is to shed light on their sales and turnover.
