Ohio Senate honours Bulgarian-American heritage

The Ohio Senate on December 13 passed a resolution honouring the Bulgarian-American cultural heritage in the state. The resolution celebrates the achievements of individuals who are part of the shared history of Bulgaria and the United States. 

They are: war correspondent Januarius MacGahan, whose reporting on the bloody suppression of the April Uprising persuaded the international community to support Bulgaria's struggle for liberation; Macedonian Bulgarians Tom and Jeff Kiradjiev, discoverers of the famous Cincinnati chili; scientist Viden Tabakov, whose developments contributed to NASA's first flight to the moon; the first US senator of Bulgarian origin, Tom Tamash

The work of the thousands of Bulgarian immigrants from the region of Macedonia and the Macedonian Patriotic Organisation (MPO) they founded in 1922 was also honoured. The organisation, which continues to promote the human rights of all people from Macedonia, regardless of their ethnicity, will also be honoured, BGNES reported.
