The Council of Ministers endorsed a decision on approving a bill on amendments to the Bulgarian citizenship act, by force of which the conditions for the acquisition of Bulgarian citizenship by persons of Bulgarian origin, and of persons with a parent with acquired Bulgarian citizenship, are supplemented, with proficiency in the Bulgarian language now a mandatory condition. A regulation is being proposed rendering release from Bulgarian citizenship impossible for persons against whom criminal proceedings have been initiated, as well as an option for the revocation of naturalization in instances of systemic and premeditated discrediting of Bulgaria, including by hate speech.
