The still existing concerns among some of our compatriots to freely define themselves as representatives of the Bulgarian national minority have their genesis in previous historical periods, but the world is already different. These are words of the General Consul of Bulgaria in Nis, Dimitar Tsanev, in an interview for the bilingual Bulgarian-Serbian internet portal FAR, quoted by BTA. I believe that now is the time when, with joint efforts and cooperation with our partners in Serbia, we will do what is necessary to make these negative stereotypes and approaches a thing of the past.

The creation of conditions for economic development in Bosilegrad and Tsaribrod is an important element for regaining this self-confidence, but also a factor that will allow young people not to leave their native hearths in search of a higher social standard. The lack of modern appropriate infrastructure creates significant obstacles for businesses to choose Tsaribrod or Bosilegrad as locations for opening enterprises. Another unfavourable factor is the lack of skilled labour.

The topic of creating conditions for economic development in this region is raised by the Bulgarian side at all bilateral meetings and talks at the highest level. Bulgaria has a limited ability to influence the creation of such suitable conditions, but participates in increasing the well-being of the residents of the border regions, providing the opportunity to work on its territory to almost 1,000 people from Tsaribrod, Bosilegrad and the surrounding villages. At the same time, we continue to look for ways to attract investors from Bulgaria, adds Tsanev.
