The Christmas “Nessebar half marathon” starts this morning from Messembria square with the participation of almost 500 runners from all over Bulgaria, as well as from other countries.

One of the aims of this year’s edition is to draw attention to the 40th anniversary since Nessebar’s Old Town was included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Amateurs will be running side by side with seasoned national athletes – marathon record-holder Militsa Mircheva and two-times trekking champion for veterans Shaban Mustafa. There will be 3 to 21 kilometre runs, the route being designed in such a way as to bring the magic of the Old Town, the sea and the mountain to the participants.

A guided tour of the Old Nessebar, a town with a history going back thousands of years, is planned for the afternoon.
