The Chairman of the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (EWRC) Ivan Ivanov has proposed the introduction of water subsidies due to the increased water prices by an average of 15% since the New Year.

The price of water in three cities - Vidin, Yambol and Sliven, exceeds the psychological limit of tolerance, Ivan Ivanov announced at a hearing in the parliament. According to him, the reason for the expensive resource lies in the high inflation and unfulfilled business plans of most water supply companies.

The introduction of water subsidies can be done with legislative changes. "With them, socially weak people will be given the opportunity to use water as a universal good for their hygienic and household needs, and the rest will be at a price corresponding to the costs of its delivery, removal and purification", explained the chairman of KEVR.
