President Rumen Radev discussed the current security situation in the Red Sea region with the heads of the armed forces, BTA news agency reported. The officials assessed the risks of escalation in the region and its impact on the situation of the Bulgarian crew on the two hijacked ships Galaxy Leader and Rouen. They also discussed the Middle East crisis, the problems of shipping, diplomatic actions and coordination with the country's partners to ensure the safety of Bulgarian citizens in the region.

The meeting is being held after the US and UK militaries launched strikes against multiple Houthi targets in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen on Thursday. The strikes were launched in response to the group's attacks on shipping in the Red Sea.
