Nearly 22% of Bulgarians are "working poor", indicate the latest data of the National Statistical Institute at the end of 2022. This was announced by the Chairperson of the Economic and Social Council Zornitsa Rusinova at a consultative meeting with the MPs from the National Assembly Committee on Labour, Social and Demographic Policy.

The Economic and Social Council is preparing an analysis of the scope of this group of workers, as well as recommendations for legislative changes to reduce the number of these people. The experts will establish whether this is related to low qualifications and lack of certain skills of the employees or the reason is the employers and the payment of envelope wages.
